1 John
1:5-7: This is the message we have heard from
him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at
all. If we say that we have fellowship
with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but
if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with
one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Reflection: How would you characterize
your relationship with Jesus? Ignoring, Exploring, Getting Started, Going
Deeper, or Centering? I am between the Going Deeper and
Centering Stages. I often seem to bounce
back and forth between them depending on the moment I am in and my life context
at the time. Sometimes I feel like I am
just starting to feel that I am figuring out how to make God’s love real in the
world, and other times I feel that I am transforming myself in the world. But this back and forth is okay because John
Wesley felt that our relationship with God wasn’t a linear progression. Sometimes we don’t feel that God is with us,
or we have doubts. This is just part of
being human. But one of the bedrocks of
the Methodist faith is that even if we are not aware of the grace of God in our
life, and our connection to God, that God is always there.
